Pet Portrait Drawing Class 

(Ages 12+)

Is your child an animal lover who enjoys drawing? In this instructional class, young artists aged 12 and up will learn how to create a detailed portrait of their own pet – using just pencils, observation, and a few essential drawing techniques.

What the Class Includes:

In this focused, skill-building session, students will be guided through the process of creating a realistic portrait of their pet – from the first sketch to the final details.

What they'll learn:

• Proportion & Placement:
  How to get the right shapes in the right places using easy-to-understand techniques for mapping out the drawing.

• Colour & Observation:
  Learning to see what the eye often misses – subtle colour shifts, highlights, and undertones that bring portraits to life.

• Pencil Techniques for Texture:
  How to use layering, blending, and mark-making to create fur, feathers, scales, and more – using coloured and graphite pencils.

• Confidence in Artistic Decision-Making:
  Students will be encouraged to make creative choices and develop their personal drawing style.
  

What to Bring:

Each student must bring a printed reference photo of their pet (or chosen animal subject).
👉 Tip: Choose a clear, high-quality image, ideally printed on paper that they can make light marks on during the process.

Cost: $25 per child

Recommended Age: 12+ (great for tweens, teens, and beginners with some interest in drawing)
Materials: Most materials will be provided. A list of optional personal supplies can be shared upon registration.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours
